The Yakima City Council today begins the long process of choosing a new city manager, a process that could take 3 to 6 months.  Right now the city council is focusing on finding a consultation firm that will help them begin the search for applicants. They originally had 16 firms they were deciding between, but have since narrowed that number down to 6. But even when they do select a firm a lot work will still go into selecting a city manager. Today the council will interview candidates from 6 firms. When a firm is selected the city says their services will cost anywhere between $23,000 to $30,000. In the meantime city attorney Jeff Cutter will remain as the Interim City Manager.
