The Yakima City Council continues work to clean up the landfill portion of the former mill site along I-82.

City officials held a study session Tuesday at city hall to discuss several options to clean up the more then 40-acre portion of the site that needs the most cleanup work.

Of the five removal options on the table the lowest cost is $7.24 million which would remove only some of the waste while the rest would be capped and left in place. The highest bid is $27 million which would remove most of the waste from the landfill and allow 27.6 acres to be re-developed without any municipal solid waste.

A majority of the clean up dollars will come from the state and federal government.
