The Yakima City Council approved an agreement Tuesday with the Yakima Southwest Rotary Club to fund and build a new $30,000 observation deck for the duck pond at Randall Park on South 48th Avenue.

The city of Yakima is spending hundreds of thousands of dollars this year on upgrading the park.

City Parks and Recreation Manager Ken Wilkenson says the improvements include new bridges, pond restoration and walkway repair. He says they will also improve landscaping, install new bathrooms fencing and playground equipment, basketball courts picnic and parking areas.

All the work will start in the spring of this year.
