OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Secretary of State Kim Wyman has appointed Cindy Aden as the new director of the Washington State Library.

Wyman announced the appointment Monday. Aden, a former president of the Washington Library Association, has worked at Amazon, Corbis and community newspapers.

The state library houses print and digital collections, genealogy resources, photo collections, historic newspapers. It also offers help for researchers, assistance to the Legislature and other policy-makers, and resources for the state's community, college and tribal libraries.

In addition, the library operates the Washington Talking Book & Braille Library in Seattle and libraries in the state prisons and mental hospitals. The state library, along with hundreds of community libraries, offer free online computer and IT courses through the Imagine Academy through a partnership with Microsoft.
