The tenants of the Cascade and Senator Apartments who are about to be evicted received help from local churches and the community in Yakima this week so they will not be left on the streets.

Executive Director of the Sunrise Outreach Center, Dave Hanson, said about 30 churches came to provide tenants with temporary housing and three churches were ready to become host shelters, KNDO reports.

The community provided food and temporary storage space for the tenants of the two historic buildings which are being renovated to meet code standards.

Tenants do not know what is going to happen because they received notice they would need to move out this Thursday.

Hanson did say the notices have been taken down with no current date for eviction since the renovations have started.
