One Yakima-area resident will get to be a big part of the city's holiday decorations this upcoming Christmas season.

The Downtown Yakima Business Improvement District is looking for a community Christmas tree. The tree will be put on display during the holidays at Millennium Plaza in front of the Capitol Theatre on South 3rd street.

The tree should be between 30 and 40 feet high, easily accessible by a crane on a flatbed truck and not surrounded by power lines or other obstructions. The tree will be removed for free on Monday, Dec. 2 and decorated by volunteers in time for a special tree lighting event beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6.

People who have a tree they would like to city to consider are asked send a picture and contact information by e-mail to downtown@yakimawa.gov. Entries should be submitted by Friday, Nov. 15.
