Yakima's Charles Carter earned a berth on the 1980 U.S. Olympic Boxing Team as a middleweight.  He did not get to compete due to the United States (along with 64 other countries) boycott of the 1980 Summer Games in Moscow. He went on to an 18-9 (8 KO) record as a pro. He also played basketball at YVCC.
