Charges could be filed this week against a Yakima City Council member arrested on a charge of driving while intoxicated last Sunday.

Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic is awaiting reports that will give him more information about the injury accident that Yakima Police say was caused by 29-year-old Councilwoman Carmen Mendez.

Police records show Mendez had a  blood-alcohol level twice the legal limit for driving when her vehicle crashed into a Suburban on April 16, injuring two people. Mendez could face a misdemeanor or felony charge, depending upon the seriousness of the injuries, which were described as minor.
