Yakima fire investigators are searching for the cause of a blaze that destroyed the Yakima Tennis Club outdoor facility on North 35th Avenue on Sunday morning.

Yakima Firefighter Randy Raschko says crews were called at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday. He says crews from just down the street at 40th Avenue and Englewood as well as crews from throughout the valley were called in to battle the flames.

“We called in crews from West Valley, Union Gap and even the Training Center to fight the fire.”

The clubhouse, which housed years of memories and memorabilia, was a total loss but the tennis courts and pool areas were saved.

Raschko says a wedding or other party ended at the facility at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Crews were called just hours later and found the clubhouse engulfed in flames. No one was inside at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Officials say the cause may have been accidental. The investigation continues today.

Club officials say they will move all planned events to the indoor facility on Fruitvale Boulevard. Damage is estimated at $500,000.
