This gallery has them all; the complete history of nine decades of Best Picture winners in pictures. Some are classics, still watched to this day. A few are almost totally forgotten to history. (Cavalcade, anyone?) But they all won. Even Crash, somehow.

Lewis & Clark Makes History –False Alarm — Dave’s Diary

Lewis and Clark are to the Northwest as cheese is to cheeseburgers.  They are part of our history and everywhere in our present. (Lewis & Clark, not cheese)  On this day in history their diary records them saying "Ocean in view!"

Not so fast.  It was just the estuary -- 20 miles short of the Pacific and bad weather would pin them down for a few days more.

Happy Birthday To The Pledge of Allegiance — Dave’s Diary

This Day in History was a coming-out party for the  "The Pledge of Allegiance," written in 1892 by Francis Bellamy to honor the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' landing in America. The Pledge first appeared in The Youth's Companion children’s magazine with Bellamy hoping that the pledge would be used by citizens in any country.

I heard May was Volcano Preparedness Month in Washington State--gee, given the events of May 18th 1980 it’s no wonder why!   This year, Volcano Preparedness Month takes on new meaning with a recent scientific study confirming that Mount St. Helens remains an active volcano which is all the more reason to insure residents an opportunity to become more familiar with volcanic risk in their communities and learn about steps they can take to reduce potential impacts.
