Who Best to Serve Yakima as Mayor — Dave’s Diary

Tonight I was sworn in for a second four year term on Yakima’s City Council.  What and honor to be able to serve and have a say in the future direction for our hometown. Thanks again to all those who voted and little extra thanks to those who voted for me.  Tonight the council also voted for the next Mayor and we did what I feared most. We turned our backs on the best choice to make government work for the voters.

Thanks for the Votes Yakima – I’ll Work Hard to Earn Them – Dave’s Diary

Thanks Yakima!  Thank you for a primary vote of confidence on the job the city council is doing right now.  I realize that elections are snapshots in time and that your opinion of me and the council’s performance could change rather quickly but that for now, we seem to be doing ok.

Why Did You Do What You Did? Supermajority Tax Vote – Dave’s Diary

Hi, Dave Ettl here to address the many questions posed to me about the city council's NO vote on the 2/3 supermajority for tax increases.  Why did we do what we did?  One more time, speaking for myself, I'm happy to explain

Vote for Change but Change Your Approach – Dave’s Diary

Are we bored with local politics yet? I hope not because it’s about to get interesting and it starts with a letter to the editor in the YHR today.  The letter is called “time for a change” and it’s about me and why I need to go!  Ouch!

Tim Eyman Misleads on Yakima Measure for Tax Supermajority Pt. 1 – Dave’s Diary

The August 6th primary ballot goes in the mail this week and it will set the line up for the general election in November.  I hope you will get informed and vote…both times!

One item Yakima City voters will find on the ballot this fall will be the request to change the Yakima City Charter to require a 2/3 majority to raise city taxes.  Under the current wording, with all 7 members present, a 4-3 simple majority is required…under the proposed change, the council would have to vote 5-2 to pass any new taxes

Yakima’s New Anti-Gang Center Under Attack – Dave Responds

The conventional wisdom says, "Dave, shut up and let them have their say."  Me? Conventional?  Not happening.  My belief is that when people go out of their way to say something that is misleading, wrong or ridiculous they need to be challenged so that others won't take it as truth by a lack of opposition.

Members of the community and the Yakima City Council have spent a great deal of time and energy preparing for the Yakima Youth and Family Development center Grand Opening held Tuesday night.  There was an excellent turnout, plenty of media coverage and an article in the YHR that only drew two comments so far.  Both are critical, and that's ok, but both are wrong and both authors know better.

I'm no Gandolf, but this shall not pass!

Dave Ettl is Not Above the Law – Dave Responds

On Sunday the Yakima Herald Republic ran a brief story about me being off air during the primary election period and possibly beyond. There really wasn't anything new to the article but it did resurrect the idea of fairness which opened the door to comment - like the one shown below.  I think my response there paints a pretty good picture of whats going on and what I think about it. So we are reprinting it here. I encourage your comments.
