Car Fires Still Under Investigation

Yakima Fire investigators are still searching for an arsonist who set five different cars on fire in January but no car fires have been reported in almost two weeks.

Capt. Tom Schneider says, “There’s times where there’s these sporadic fires just happen to be car fires.”

The most recent arson-related car fire spread to a nearby duplex. It started at the front of the open carport before moving to the back and extending into the attic space of the living area. Investigators say the residents told them they heard a loud bang and looked out to see their pickup on fire.

No arrests have been made in the case but investigators are hoping they do not have any more car fires that could lead to home fires.
