Yakima County deputies attempted to stop a stolen 2001 Dodge truck in the area of the 4200 block of Spring Creek Road at about 9:00 p.m. Tuesday. The vehicle was pulling a homemade trailer. The vehicle failed to stop and continued to Ahtanum Road.

During the pursuit the trailer came off the hitch and came to rest in a parking lot along the 2000 block of Ahtanum. After initially going eastbound into Union Gap the vehicle made a U-Turn and went west. Other deputies along with WSP Troopers and officers from Union Gap joined the chase.

The suspects led officers along back roads and orchards where speeds reached 80 to 85 miles per hour.

Finally the suspect vehicle pulled onto Slavin Road. It continued past a dead end and onto private property. As it came to a stop a deputy sheriff exited his car to order the suspects out. The suspect vehicle then began to back up in an attempt to hit the deputy. The deputy then fired one round at the suspect vehicle.

The vehicle pulled forward and went off road a short distance before getting stuck in a ditch. Two male suspects were then taken into custody without further incident. There were no injuries to officers, suspects or the public.

The suspects were booked into the Yakima County Jail for various charges to include: First Degree Assault, Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Attempt to Elude.
