I’m not exactly what you would call a threat to anyone appearing on The Voice.  I sang in high school Choir but whatever ability I had is long since gone!

But some folks never had it to begin with and for them science says - if you can't carry a tune in a bucket you may also lack certain social skills and the ability to get the meaning of what's being said!

Researchers from three U.K. universities had participants judge the emotion expressed only through a voice recording. Compared to a control group, the study's tone-deaf participants were less accurate at correctly identifying the emotions in the audio clips.

What can we draw from this? The Daily Mail reports the findings seem to suggest that limited understanding of vocal emotions in tone-deaf people is related to “impaired pitch, amplitude, duration, and intensity processing.”

Researchers say that about four percent of the population is tone-deaf.  That amounts to a lot of potential miscommunication! (Daily Mail)
