Looking for another argument to present to your kids or grandkids to get them off their electronic devices?  Maybe this will work—but probably not!  New research says that by the year 2050, half the world's population will be nearsighted.

The common vision problem called myopia causes close up objects to appear clearly but not objects farther away.  CBS says the number of Americans with myopia has increased significantly from the 1970's to the early 2000's.

Genetics plays a part in nearsightedness but kids spending too much time inside on their devices also could be to blame. The neurotransmitter in our brains is called dopamine.  It controls how the eyes grow and dopamine production is stimulated by the sun. If you don't have enough dopamine, the shape of the eye can get longer and that could be a major contributing cause to an increase in nearsightedness.

SO hide the I-pad and usher the kids outside...then join them for some Vitamin D!
