Yakima's homeless camp called Camp Hope is a lot different than it was just a year ago and organizers are inviting you for a tour and BBQ this week. The Director Andy Ferguson with Transform Yakima Together says the camp on East Nob Hill behind the U-Haul building is now housing people in large military style tents that will be heated this winter. He says the open house is being held the answer a lot of questions people have.
Ferguson says they're working with the city to get hooked up to utilities soon. The plan is to stay at the site for two years while they look for a permanent location.
The open house and BBQ is set for both Friday and Saturday. Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The specific address of the camp is 2300 Birch Street right behind the U-Haul or former K-Mart building.
