I used to have several favorite rides at the Central Washington State Fair. Now, it's time to watch the kids get spun, shaken and tilted.

The carnival rides are an integral part of the Central Washington State Fair, just not so much for me. Don't get me wrong, I used to have several favorites like the Scrambler, the Enterprise and the Tilt-A-Whirl. It just seems that as I've gotten older, the allure is just not there anymore. Face it, I'm approaching grandparent age, but my children range in age from 9 months to nearly 16. Shelling out a bunch of bucks to be turned upside down while spinning backwards is not for me. That's not to say I don't enjoy seeing me older daughters faces as they stagger off of the Zipper. To me, that is worth the price of the unlimited ride wristband. And I love to see my 6 and 10 year olds and their huge smiles when they are on a kiddie ride.

It's funny. I will ride every ride at Disneyland and love it. I think it's something about the story that goes along with the attraction. Well, any ride except Micky's Fun Wheel. That makes me sick.

So if you see me on the midway at this year's fair, I'll be the guy pushing a stroller waiting for his kids to get off of the Kamikaze. Hoping they don't stagger over and barf on my shoes.
