Every sports fan has a few favorite Olympic moments. Here's one of mine.

I've been watching the Olympic Summer Games in earnest since the 1968 Mexico City Games. The 1972 Munich Games really stand out in my memory for a couple of reasons. Obviously, the tragedy involving the Israeli team is unforgettable, but the United States team had some great performances by athletes with great stories. Swimmer Mark  Spitz and his seven gold medals. Marathon gold medalist Frank Shorter being upstaged by a bogus runner as he entered Olympic Stadium. Robert Taylor taking the silver medal in the men's 100 meter sprint, amid much controversy.

Here's one of my favorites. Dave Wottle in the men's 800 meters. His golf cap became one of the most famous hats in U.S. athletic history after this race.
