Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) was busy today as the 114th Congress was sworn in and among the 435 House of Representative members is Washington's new 4th District Congressman Dan Newhouse.

Newhouse (R-WA) released the following statement after taking the oath of office in the official swearing-in ceremony to represent Washington’s 4th Congressional District:

“It is an honor to be entrusted by the citizens of Central Washington to represent them in Congress, and I am humbled by the duty to bring our region's concerns to the nation's capital," said Rep. Newhouse. “When I raised my right hand and swore an oath to support and defend the Constitution, I was reminded of the great responsibility to act in accordance with the values that make our nation great: limited government, individual freedom and economic opportunity. Taxpayers and hard-working families in Central Washington deserve a steadfast commitment to always listen and work hard on common sense solutions that address the challenges we face. It's Congress' job to work together to restore fiscal accountability and ensure a limited federal government that is effective in fulfilling its responsibilities rather than a perpetrator of burdensome regulations. I look forward to serving the people of the 4th District, and I am optimistic that we can get results for Central Washington."

Rep. Newhouse has been assigned to three committees with jurisdiction on critical legislative issues for Central Washington: the Committees on Agriculture; Natural Resources; and Science, Space & Technology.  Additionally, Representative Newhouse cosponsored several bills to start the 114th Congress, including pieces of legislation that would require a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, scrap the existing tax code and call for fundamental tax reform, and a bill to repeal Obamacare.
