s mowing the lawn on the weekend bucket list? As a kid your first job might have been to mow the family lawn.  You might even have made a neighborhood business out of it, but that was then and this is now and given the current trends, today’s young landscape entrepreneur might need more jobs to make the same money because the size of lawns are shrinking!

Zillow notes that as the preference for larger houses gets popular again, American lawns are getting smaller.  A decade ago, new homes typically had about three feet of yard for every foot indoors, but now they are coming with fewer than two feet of yard space for each foot of indoor space. This is partially because larger homes are being built on smaller lots.

A CBS news reports that the average lot size has decreased 13 percent since 1978, and that land prices have nearly doubled since 2009. As a result, some developers are coping by reducing the size of lawns and adding community spaces and trails to help provide more green space to cramped homeowners. (CBS)
