Before you set the table for the big Sunday dinner, consider this. We reported on past studies that show how the color of your dishes can affect how your food tastes.  Now there’s more research out of the dining room by way of the University of Cambridge.  Their work , as reported by Yahoo, shows that giant plates and super-sized silverware lead people to overeat and over-drink.

The study reviewed the results of more than 60 studies with 6,700 volunteers. What they found was significant -- simply choosing smaller plates and silverware could help reduce portion sizes and the average daily food intake by up to 29 percent!

Researchers say helping people avoid "overserving" themselves or others with larger portions of food or drink by reducing their size, availability and appeal in restaurants, shops and in the home, is likely to be a good way of helping lots of people reduce their risk of overeating.

Not sure how they got there, but the Cambridge crew says a nine-inch plate is best. (Yahoo
