Major changes are planned for North First Street in Yakima, the official entrance to the city of Yakima.

The city council next Tuesday will hold a study session on a final design of the street which will include new sidewalks, lights, new lanes and a bike path and possibly even buried power lines.

Yakima City Manager Tony O'Rourke says he is waiting on the OK from the council.

Once they give us the green light then we get into the business of developing construction drawings and get this project underway in the spring of 2015.

O'Rourke says it is an $11 million project. The city has $8 million it is using on the project. The remainder is in the form of a Federal grant.

O'Rourke says the changes will improve the look to the entrance to the city of Yakima.
