PORT ANGELES, Wash. (AP) — Helicopters have been brought in to help battle a wildfire in rugged terrain in Olympic National Park in northwest Washington state.

The U.S. Forest Service says 18 firefighters and two helicopters performing bucket water drops were attempting Monday to slow the progress of the blaze on the north side of the Queets River.

The fire was burning more than 400 acres Sunday, but officials said smoke was hampering their attempt to get an accurate measurement Monday. Warm temperatures and low humidity are expected this week, and authorities expect the blaze to grow.

The Forest Service says a special federal team is being organized to respond.

Authorities say no property or people were threatened because the remote location of the fire, which began over the weekend. The Forest Service says firefighting options are limited because the steep terrain makes building fire lines difficult.
