Bicyclist Dies After Being Hit By A Car

A 30 year old cyclist, Jared Carr of Walla Walla died after being hit by a car on the old inland highway east of Prosser about 12:30 Sunday morning. The driver, David Godinez, 19, of Prosser told authorities he swerved for a skunk and struck Carr who died at the scene. Carr was wearing a helmet and was equipped with reflective devices for night riding.  Godinez is under investigation to see whether alcohol may have played a role. He was taken to a Prosser hospital after the crash for a blood test. Authorities say a charge of vehicular homicide is pending.
