Yakima parks could soon be getting more signage to more strictly enforce operating hours.

The city said there currently is a curfew in place. Parks are supposed to be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., but a lack of clear markings and advanced warnings do not give police a lot of authority to administer the time limit.

"When we get something clearly marked then our officers are under better protection when they go in and say hey, it's time to move on or you're trespassing," said Yakima Council Member Dave Ettl.

The city said they also plan to ask for a public hearing in regards to banning smoking in parks. The hearing could be scheduled for some time in August.
