• The Mexican government currently is making regulatory changes to allow U.S. beef and beef product imports from cattle of any age which would lift the 30-month cattle age limit for U.S. beef and remove the remaining BSE-related restrictions.

    U.S. Meat Export Federation (USMEF) regional director for Mexico Chad Russell says this is an issue USMEF has been working on for a number of years. The changes to these import regulations were supposed to take effect on April 30th but USMEF expects the process will be completed within the next few days.

    Russell says this development should have a positive impact on the United States’ ability to export more beef to such a large, important market.

  • USDA has announced $540 million of funding for projects in 18 states through its rural utilities program to improve electric service to business and residential consumers in rural areas.

    Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack says electric reliability is a critical component of the success of the U.S. rural economy. He says this funding will help continue to ensure the safety, reliability and affordability of electric service in rural areas.
