Bears Get 5-0 Shutout Win

The Yakima Bears shutout the Spokane Indians 5-0 Tuesday night at Yakima County Stadium. The Bears are now 11-8 this season and, after winning two of three games against the Indians, the team has won four-consecutive series.

The Bears grabbed an early lead when Josh Parr hit a solo home run in the first inning, which was followed by a Shaun Cooper single and a RBI-double from Jacob House. The Bears would add to the lead in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run triple by House. After four innings, the Bears led 5-0, which held up to the end thanks to the pitching staff.

Starting pitcher Cody Wheeler pitched like he had a one-run lead, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing three hits and one walk with six strikeouts. Wheeler would earn his second win in as many starts. Frank Santana then came in and K’d five batters in two shutout innings. Jose Jose finished the game by blanking the Indians in the final two frames. Those three pitchers allowed only five hits and finished with a combined 12 strikeouts.

Three Bears batters ended the night with multi-hit games, as Yakima outhit Spokane 8-5. Josh Parr went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored, a RBI, a walk, and a stolen base. Jacob House hit a double and a triple as part of a 2-for-4 game that also featured three runs batted in. Kevin Medrano went 2-for-3 with a run batted in.

The Bears still have a three-game lead for first place in the Northwest League’s East Division after going 4-2 on the six-game homestand. The team takes to the road for the next three days to take on the Indians once again. First pitch each night in Spokane is scheduled for 6:35. Wednesday’s probable pitchers are lefty Daniel Watts of the Bears and right-handed pitcher Abel De Los Santos of the Indians.
