Bears Beaten By Boise 7-4

The Yakima Bears lost 7-4 to the Boise Hawks Tuesday night at Yakima County Stadium. The Bears had already won the three-game series by taking the first two games and the team finished the homestand 4-2.

The Bears were playing catch up all game after allowing four runs in the first inning. Danny Poma led off the bottom of the first inning with a single and eventually scored thanks largely to two wild pitches. With one out in the second inning Wagner Mateo hit a single and Mark Ginther reached on a walk. Mateo stole third base and then scored when the thrown went in to left field, while Ginther came home on Jesus Abreu double to pull the Bears within one run. The Hawks utilized two errors to score two more runs in the fourth inning to push the lead to 6-3. Jacob House followed Wagner Mateo’s method from the second inning, as he singled, advanced to second base thanks to the batter behind him, then stole third and went home on an errant throw by the Hawks’ catcher. Bose added a run in the eighth and held on for the 7-4 win over the Bears.

Bears starter Alex Carreras took the loss after giving up four earned runs and six runs total in five innings. Victor Acosta pitched the final four frames and allowed only one run on two hits and two walks. Pitchers on both sides lacked defensive support, as each team committed four errors in the field.

The Bears outhit the Hawks 8-7 and stole three bases, but it wasn’t enough. Michael Lang went 2-for-4 with a triple and both Jesus Abreu and Joe Loftus hit a double in the game.

The Bears will spend the next five days in Everett taking on the AquaSox. Game time Wednesday for the series opener is scheduled for 7:05. Right-handed pitcher Derrick Stultz of the Bears is expected to square off against lefty Scott DeCecco of the AquaSox.
