Be Safe Using Space Heaters as Colder Weather Comes

Yakima firefighters are warning that some older models of space heaters can start fires. Deputy Fire Marshal Brandon Dorenbush tells KIT News if you use space heaters make sure they are kept away from clutter in your home. Clothes, bedspreads, curtains and newspapers can catch fire if left too close the space heater. Homeowners using a fireplace need to make sure it is inspected and cleaned after periods of inactivity to prevent house fires.
