The community in Yakima is now more aware about the homeless youth problem in Yakima.

The Rod House had a free BBQ to educate the public about what they do and why there is such a large homeless youth population in Yakima Saturday.

The executive director of the Rod House tells KNDO News that this is a stepping stone to get more people aware of the issue and getting these kids on the right track.

"We want people to be aware that we are moving kids forward, we're getting them off the streets and people need to know and hear that story," said Executive Director Joe Willis.

The executive director said every day they help at least 30 kids.

The house is meant to be a place for them to get off the streets, away from criminal activity and to get them headed back on the right track toward education and employment.
