The 110th World Series gets underway today as the familiar face San Francisco Giants (3 appearances in last five years) take on the “who are you again?” Kansas City  Royals (first appearance in 29 years!)  The personal finance website WalletHub crunched the numbers and put together a collection of some of the most interesting facts and figures related to the event – from ticket sales and TV numbers to salaries and economic impact.

Last year the series average 13.9 million viewers per game  but to see this game in person it will cost you in the neighborhood of $1,615.

As popular as the “national pastime” is, it isn’t football.  A 30 second super bowl spot is 4-million  while that same commercial will cost sponsors  just 470-thousand in the World Series.

The winners get a trophy that costs Tiffany & Company 15-grand to make and each player will get a ring featuring dozens of diamonds plus sapphires and rubies!  In addition, the winner’s share of bonus cash last year was $307,322.68.

The Royals are on a roll. The Giants are well familiar with the big stage.  So who wins?  The season record may tell—Royals were 3-0 against the Giants in 2014.
