What is the lesson to be learned from selling Girl Scout cookies? I would imagine the idea was to learn to make a presentation and a good impression, learn to deal with rejection, learn to be organized and have follow through—all the life lessons about being successful in the real world.

But have overzealous parents and over competitive kids lost sight of the real intent? Now that you can order Girl Scout cookies online, Yahoo Parenting reports that there's been a bit of a backlash against parents posting sales links for their daughters. Critics say the whole point of the cookie sales experience is to have the girls learn skills by doing it themselves.

An anonymous poster on Momtastic spoke for a lot of folks when she wrote, "When I was a Girl Scout, I went door-to-door and made the uncomfortable asks myself. My friends and I set up tables outside of grocery stores. We called our aunts and uncles in different states. . . . I like to think that all my years of getting turned down from my mean old neighbor prepared me for some of the disappointments I've faced in the real world."

The thing to keep in mind is the fact that we can’t protect our kids from failure or disappointment and we shouldn’t try. We should instead help them develop resiliency and bounce back ability.

Yahoo Parenting says if parents want to help they could work with their daughters come up with a post or record them in a video for cookie sales
