If you are taking a drive today you might be delayed on your trip. The Washington State Department of Transportation plans to do avalanche control work at the summit of Chinook Pass this afternoon.

The DOT says crews will stop eastbound traffic at milepost 69.5 and westbound traffic at milepost 71 from noon until (probably) around 2 PM, so drivers can expect 30 to 60 minute delays.

The DOT say the exact ending time of the work isn't set in stone at this point, because back county avalanche control work is different than work on other mountain passes. Once the avalanche crew reaches the summit, they have to assess the conditions and wait for the right temperature to conduct the control work.
