GRANITE FALLS, Wash. (AP) ” Authorities say the 6-year-old boy who was missing around ice caves northeast of Seattle was found dead in a nearby river and likely drowned.

The Snohomish County Sheriff's Office said Monday the boy's body was recovered from the South Fork of the Stillaguamish river Sunday, about a mile downstream from a footbridge of a hiking trail that crosses the river.

Authorities found the boy using a helicopter and then unsuccessfully tried to revive him with CPR.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner identified the boy as Aidan McClanahan of Mill Creek.

The caves are a popular hiking destination east of Granite Falls, Washington, and reopened recently with new warning signs. The trail had been closed since July 6, when falling rock and ice in the caves killed a 34-year old California woman and injured five others. The woman's brother, also hurt in the incident, died of his injuries in October.
