Tonight, at the Yakima City Council meeting, the group will consider a special events policy related to security. In specific, Yakima police overtime.
The city currently spends $50,000 on Police overtime for special events such as the Sunfair parade and other community events like the PNWU 5K fun run and the May Day march.
The question is, who should pay for what?
Thanks to major fundraising efforts by Yakima’s Sunrise Rotary Club, construction is almost complete on a pavilion at Franklin Park valued at $200,000, which will serve as a home for family picnics and community events as well as a stage for the City’s summer concert series, the Yakima Folklife Festival, etc.
I'm sure if you live in the Yakima area and have a Facebook page then you've at least heard about the Rachael Ray ASPCA $100,000 Challenge. Our Humane Society works extremely hard to save the lives of stray or abandon dogs
The fall season is upon us and before you know it there will be that fun "white" stuff on the ground! It was snowing a little today in Naches and Gleed and the extended forecast shows a chance of snow the rest of this week. SO if you're thinking about getting studded tires or you just need to get them put on your ride, November 1st is the starting date when they're allowed.
The first Sunfair Parade was held in 1961 in midsummer, part of a Sunfair, sponsored by the Yakima Sundusters, a promotional group of the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce. In 1972, the parade was moved to September to coincide with the opening of the Central Washington State Fair.
