Yakima Uncorked was all we had hoped for Saturday (June 24). It was a fantastic-good time. Hundreds and hundreds of people showed up for what could be the biggest party of the year. Food, beer and wine vendors were so busy it was hard to keep up. But by the looks of everyone's faces, they did it.
Living in a desert setting, it's easy to forget there is such deep forest beauty just 20 minutes from us. But State Rout 410 between Naches and Whistlin' Jack Lodge is absolutely breathtaking. It truly is Mother Nature's gift to us. There are so many sights to see. I remember the first time I drove toward Chinook Pass I passed by a camping resort. I saw a bear chasing a guy up a tree.
Downtown Summer Nights was, naturally, a hit this week (June 22). What a blast! We had so many people there it was incredible! And every direction I turned, there was someone with a Seahawks jersey, T-shirt or even shoes. Seahawk fans are everywhere, even in the middle of the summer at Downtown Summer Nights.
But when someone paints a $45,000 truck with everything Seahawks-related, it takes pride to a whole new level.
Yakima's Relay for Life is this Saturday at West Valley High School -- and what an amazing cause. The fight for cancer is no joke. You don't have to sign up early. You can go on Saturday and join in on the fight for cancer and celebrate the survivors who are already beating it.
I as driving home pretty late Thursday night after an amazing Downtown Summer Nights. I stopped by the AM/PM (since it is the only thing open that late) to get some Cheetos. I went in the parking lot right by Joel's Tires and I saw this wheelchair.
With clouds looming and rain pattering, Thursday night's Downtown Summer Nights opening started out looking pretty ugly. But as the music started, the skies brightened -- and all of a sudden everything started looking like a lot more fun...
But the latest scary health study might make you lose your appetite. Scientists from the National Research Council in Padova, Italy, say people who eat fried potatoes two or more times per week are doubling their risk of early death, according to CNN.
Every year the city of Tieton and the Police Department gather up a ton of money to buy some really cool bicycles. Then they throw a huge event just to give away the bikes. They have a barbecue, play music and the police set up a bicycle course and offer prizes.
