Yakima’s Memorial Day parade is next Saturday (May 27), starting downtown at 10 a.m. We would love to see you show your support for our fallen men and women of the military and to those you have loved and lost.
Selah Community Days is back this week (May 18-May 21), and you don't want to miss any of the action. It is always such a fantastic time. Kicking it off is the excellent Hobo Feed at the Selah Civic Center, 216 S. First St.
I was headed up Summitview Avenue and enjoying a beautiful Sunday afternoon. The traffic was pretty good and the weather was really nice. Everyone was out hiking or fishing or just having some fun. Sometimes, though, the most fun in Yakima is watching everyone else have fun. I saw some pretty cool sights just driving around. One left me wondering why I sold some of the old cars I've had.
The only thing more gratifying than getting in shape is getting in shape for a good cause. And it's even more fun if you can take your dog along. That's what the upcoming Yakima Strong 9K4K9 Fun Run/Walk for the Yakima K-9 Unit is all about -- the dogs!
Rod's House is a fantastic place in Yakima that helps teenagers in need. They help get them the food they need, clothes and even after-school help. Rod's House is an excellent program to get teens back on track. Now they need our help.
What an accomplishment! Lewis and Clark Middle School's band and orchestra earned a perfect score at a Yakima Valley Music Educators Association competition held at Highland High School today (April 18). It's the first time a band has ever scored 100 percent at a YVMEA competition.
When I say "Mom & Pop" I mean hardworking local people who have started their own small businesses. Thus, the phrase "Mom & Pop." Starting your own business takes a lot of guts, willpower and some good hard work to keep it going. We have some excellent small businesses in the Yakima Valley. March 29 is National Small Business Day, so I salute them today.
We had a blast at Dozer Day at State Fair Park with the Central Washington Home Builders Association! The kids had fun and so did us adults. Driving the dozers and other heavy equipment made me want to change careers. Well, maybe not the hardworking part, but man, what a lot of fun!
