When I first started in the work force, I didn't take a sick day or a vacation for almost three years. I was bound and determined to get ahead in this life. Then I got sick and had to take off five days. When I got back, they said I had three days left for the entire year. What the heck? Three years without taking any time off and all I have left is three days? That is a bunch of crap. I certainly get more time off now, but is it enough?
The Vietnam War was the worst of the worst. All wars suck, but that war had to be the worst for our troops and for the United States of America! As a nation, we did not stand behind them. When our own American troops came home they were not welcomed at all. They were treated very poorly. Every year that the "Welcome Home" ceremony happens I go. Not only to prove that I am a true patriot, but to let them know that I care.
March 28 is "Weed Appreciation Day," but I don't mean just marijuana. (We'll celebrate that on April 20.) I am talking about all nuisance weeds: crabgrass, dandelions, cocklebur, prickly lettuce and even carpetweed.
It is time for that crazy bunny to grace us with its presence -- sort of, anyway. We never actually see the Easter Bunny, but with all of the colorful eggs it leaves, she has to be there, right? Well the Easter Bunny has a ton of places to drop Easter eggs this year -- she'll even hit some of them before Easter.
Motorheads from all over Central Washington will be rolling in for this weekend's Custom Car & Cycle Show -- the custom cars, trucks and cycles are incredible and they have come from all around. Tri-Cites, Seattle, Ellensburg, Yakima and other parts of Washington and Idaho. You shouldn't miss this event.
Heroes step up when you least expect it. Luckily for some Yakima folks, a guy named Tyler Gutierrez stepped up Saturday.
The Yakima Herald-Republic reports that Gutierrez was headed back home to Union Gap when he noticed smoke coming from a home on 69th Avenue -- and he could hear the barks of some dogs trapped inside the house.
I hear every day how the Yakima Valley is a piece of crap. Nothing but drugs, fights and fornication. But that's not entirely accurate. There are some amazing sights to see in our fair valley. Wine, theater, Mexican dancing horses and just some good fun.
