John Taylor is a lifelong writer and veteran journalist. He's worked as a reporter, editor and designer for newspapers in Washington, Montana, California and his home state of Oregon. Before joining Townsquare Media, he was the news editor of The Wenatchee World for six years. Prior to that, he was an editor for the Yakima Herald-Republic for more than a decade. Gambling Board Clears Way for More Slots at Tribal Casinos

Tribal Casinos Won’t Take Welfare Cards Anymore

OLYMPIA (AP) -- Tribal casinos in Washington will no longer cash welfare cards under an agreement with the state Gambling Commission.

The commission said Tuesday that 27 of the 29 federally recognized tribes in the state -- including the Yakama Nation -- have agreed to amend gambling agreements to ensure that all cash dispensing and point-of-sale machines refuse electronic benefit cards
