With First Pot Stores Opening in July, State Focuses on Protecting Minors

As Washington state prepares to issue the first licenses for marijuana retail stores, Gov. Jay Inslee and other state leaders on Tuesday announced a coordinated campaign to make sure pot stays out of the hands of minors once products start hitting store shelves next month.

Conservation Groups Emphasize Nonlethal Wolf Control

Eight conservation groups are complaining that it is too easy to kill wolves that attack livestock in Washington state.

The groups recently filed a petition asking the state Department of Fish and Wildlife to require livestock producers to exhaust nonlethal measures to prevent wolf depredations before any wolves are killed.

Jobless Rate Remains the Same

Washington state's unemployment rate is holding steady at 6.1 percent, and the state's employers added 4,000 jobs last month.

Numbers released Wednesday by the state Employment Security Department show that the job growth reported for May comes following a strong month in April, where upward revised numbers showed a gain of 8,900 jobs
