The artist creating and designing the Bins of Light art project for the Lincoln Avenue underpass says she's excited to bring to life the project her firm has been working on since 2011.

Laura Haddad of Haddad Drugan LLC in Seattle says the design is ready for the city to find a contractor and start the work. She says each of the 56 bins will reflect light at night and sun during the day. "At night the glass will illuminate with its color and during the day the sun will stream through the back of the aluminum cut panels and cast the image of the cut design onto the back of the glass," she explains.

Haddad says some of the bins will have pictures of fruit on the glass panels. And she's working with the city to contract the work, though she doesn't have a timeline on when it may be completed. She's hoping it's early next year.

Tuesday, the Yakima City Council approved spending $350,000 on the artwork. The city has already spent $100,000 on the design work. Haddad says the site has already been prepared as part of the work when the underpass was installed.
