Selah Community Days did not disappoint this year. People came out in droves to attend all of the festivities. It really was a milestone for the community. The parade brought more than usual. Half of the floats themes were about being a true American. Even the Selah queen and princess floats were designed to honor our country. To finish it off was the armed forces ceremony at Wixson Park. I was honored to be asked to be a part of it. From the moment that Ed Falter from the United States Marine Corps started honoring our services men and woman, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Especially mine.

No matter how the country has treated some of our servicemen and women over the years, they all still keep their heads up, truly being proud of what they have done and proud to have served.

I never got to serve. I tried but found out I was going to have a baby. In the '80s the rules hadn't changed yet. So, I try to serve by helping those who have.

In the middle of the ceremony, the Rev. W.F. Rasmussen wrote a poem that he shared. He wrote it especially for the Selah Community Days armed forces ceremony. It was quite spectacular. At the end of the ceremony he walked up to me and said that he gives the poem to someone who will cherish. He chose me. Well, I was already bawling my face off and after that, well you know.

I am proud to call those men and women from Selah Community Days my friends. And I am even more proud to still be a part of this country.

God bless America and semper fi!
