Are We Trading Time On Social Media For Our Basic Human Morality?
Every day those of us working at KIT encourage you to visit our web page at www.newstalkkit.com and to follow us on Face book. We try our best to bring you interesting news, information and conversation starters. We don't expect you to camp there and in no way would we EVER seek to compromise your morals in the process, (ok, Jacksonian might but Lance and I would stop him). However,
some Canadian researchers are concerned that is what is happening in social media today!
Researchers looked at the personality traits, texting behavior and social media use of 149 undergrads. As you might expect, 95 percent had Face book accounts, 68 percent used Twitter, and 64 percent used Instagram.
As reported in the Daily Mail, scientists say those who used social media the most were “the most likely to rate things such as hedonism, fame, and their image as more important than helping their community and family.”
Wow, talk about self absorbed. It’s both sad and a little frightening.
The research findings also concluded that the heaviest social media users “were also much less likely to engage in reflective thoughts about their actions and the world around them.”
So much for the unexamined life being not worth living. Who’s quote? Look it up on line and share on face book and twitter! Sheesh! (Daily Mail)
