If you wait until the deadline of April 15 to file your taxes, you'll have a couple of extra days this year. IRS spokesman David Tucker says this year the deadline has been extended to April 18 because of the holiday called Emancipation Day in Washington, D.C.

"Every so often if falls on the same day as tax day. So when that happens the tax day is extended to April 18," Tucker says.

And if you still can't file by the deadline, he adds, you can file for a six-month extension -- if you owe taxes, though, you must still pay them by the deadline. You can file electronically and if you make under $62,000 a year you can use free filing software at the IRS website at irs.gov.
