Proud Pops Dave here has to brag a bit.  Awesome daughter Kate aka The Gator, now 6 years old and in kindergarten, last week was  awarded her second student of the month award for this year.  The first one was for character and she definitely IS one of those! This most recent award was for academic excellence and she is very smart—maybe too smart for her own good sometimes!  Her mom and I are proud of her and we offer plenty of praise and reinforcement but we don’t push.

We know that our choices and behaviors can affect her confirmed by a new study that reveals that over-anxious parents can actually pass their anxiety onto their kids.

Researchers looked at sets of identical twins who were each parents themselves. This allowed them to distinguish whether a child's anxiety derived from nature (genes) or nurture (their parents.)

They discovered that the adult parents from identical twin pairs showed greater similarity to the anxiety levels their own adolescent children experienced than to those of their nieces and nephews.

Huh?  They say this suggests that nurture, or family influence, is an important determining factor when it comes to passing on anxiety.

So lighten up mom & dad because you are messing with your kids.  The good news is parents who are anxious can now be counseled and educated on ways to minimize the impact of their anxiety on the child's development.  (Daily Mail
