Yakima is beginning to feel the effects of an ammunition shortage.

The shortage could hit Yakima police officers. The department is still stocked. However, the armory director says he worries about running into trouble when it comes time to order ammunition for this year.

News partner KIMA Action News reports the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut might be a reason for the low supply.

Prices for Yakima Police Department's ammunition jumped 70% between 2011 and 2012.
