A large ammonia leak at a Zillah fruit warehouse early today forced the evacuation of parts of downtown Zillah. Officials with the Yakima County Office of Emergency Management say the 8,000 pound leak has been stopped. It happened at Stadelman's Fruit Warehouse. The leak was found inside the warehouse engine room. 1 person was taken to a hospital to be checked out. Students at Zillah intermediate and Zillah High School sheltered in place to minimize exposure. Hundreds of people were evacuated from downtown Zillah. The cause of the leak remains under investigation.
