LOS ANGELES (AP) — Amber Heard's ex-girlfriend says the actress was wrongfully accused of domestic violence in 2009.

Tasya van Ree says in a statement released by Heard's spokeswoman that the former couple was involved in an incident in Seattle that has been misinterpreted.

A spokesman for the Port of Seattle says Heard was arrested by police for domestic violence at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in 2009, and the prosecuting attorney's office declined to file criminal charges in the case.

Heard is divorcing actor Johnny Depp. They were married for 15 months before a divorce petition was filed last month. She said in a Los Angeles court that he had been physically and emotionally abusive throughout their relationship.

Heard and Van Ree dated for five years. Van Ree says the pair remains close.
