In 2014 the City of Yakima missed its chance to become an All America City. So Yakima is trying again this year. Joe Mann, Chair of the All America City Committee says the team of 23 people leaves on Thursday to Colorado attend the weekend competition. Mann says the Yakima presentation is set for Sunday morning.
In 2014 the city was among 25 finalist cities hoping to gain the title. Yakima last earned the title of All America City back in 1994.
Since 1949, the National Civic League has recognized and celebrated the best in American civic innovation with the prestigious All-America City Award. The award, bestowed yearly on 10 communities (more than 650 in all), recognizes trail-blazing efforts to bring residents, local government, business and nonprofit groups together to tackle the most pressing local issues.
