Yakima fell short of an All-America City award in Denver over the weekend, but organizers pushing for the honor say they aren't discouraged.

Thane Phalen, vice president of the Greater Yakima Chamber of Commerce, says organizers learned a lot in their bid to bring the prize to Yakima for the first time in 20 years. “I think this is just the first step to us submitting on a yearly basis to highlight the civic accomplishments in Yakima,” he says.

The city was among 25 finalists hoping to gain the title. Yakima last earned the title of All America city back in 1994. The delegation from Yakima returns today.
